This park located
between Beşiktaş and Ortaköy coast-line has been an important green area in
Istanbul since the 1600s. It was bought by Murad IV when it was previously a
private property belonging to a wealthy family. During the famous Tulip Era it
was used as the backyard of Çırağan Palace and after the year 1877 it became
the outer grove of Yıldız Palace.
Throughout these transitions many beautiful
mansions were built and are open and
even in use now as restaurants and cafes. As many other parks of Istanbul, this
history of the park makes it also culturally significant. While having your picnic on the tables placed
you can have squirrels as your guests and after your visit you can have a look
at the Küçük Mecidiye Mosque located right next to the exit.
